Make Your Home Based Small Business a Success Part 2

As I promised, here are the rest of the rules to make your home-based business a success.

Rule 7 – Make your own choices not someone else’s.  And definitely do not let anyone else make yours.  Follow your dream; no one else can follow it for you.  Ignoring the naysayers!

Rule 8 – Pay attention to detail.  Read the fine print.  Not just the fine print in contracts, but every word of every advertisement or sales letter.  Like your spelling and punctuation.  You do not want a bad URL on a sales letter.

Rule 9 - Give credit where credit is due.  Remember to acknowledge the people who have been supporting you in getting to where you want to go.  Acknowledge the achievements of those associated with your business.  Remember, “No man (or woman) is an island.”

Rule 10 - Do not let it get you down.  To achieve long-term success in your business you need to remain calm.  You will face unexpected challenges, unexplained roadblocks in your business or even failure to achieve the results that you want.  Just recognize that these are just a part of business life.  Use a calm, methodical approach to each problem.  You will succeed!

Do not give up until you have done a thorough, calm and careful investigation that convinces you that you are completely doing the wrong thing.  Analyze your problem calmly and intellectually to correct the situation.  You do not need to slam on the brakes just to slow down.  To try easing on the brakes and slow down a little bit so that you can see the scenery going by and the problems coming at you.

Rule 11 – Think big, be brave!  This rule goes hand in hand with rules 4 and 5.  You need vision to set goals and plan ways to achieve them.  There is nothing you cannot achieve.  Make sure all your work is going to be for something truly worthwhile.

Rule 12 - Do not listen to your fears or naysayers.  We all have moments of self-doubt or even fear when we start a new journey with an unknown destination.  What you have planned for may bring with it feelings of anxiety, nervousness and even fear, pay attention to them but do not listen to them.  I read somewhere once, “Feel the fear and do it anyway.”  To me this says that if you have a dream and are willing to reach beyond the boundaries of your comfort zone you will experience anxiety, nervousness and even fear.  So just go for it.

Rule 13 - Believe what you are doing.  Believe that things will work out, that they will look better in the morning, and that everything is going to be OK.  Believe these words.  Instill a spirit of unshakable optimism in your outlook and you will attract success into your life.

Rule 14 - Learn to say no. You cannot please all of the people all of the time.  Your ultimate responsibility is the success of your business and your own personal success.  Do not worry about other people if they do not believe in what you are doing.  As long as you believe in what you are doing is right, stay focused.

Rule 15 - Take opportunities when they arise.  If an opportunity comes along, take it.  It may not come again.  And remember, in chaos there is opportunity.

Do not regret any of your decisions.  Hindsight maybe 20/20 but do not have regrets.  You would not be where you are if you have not made those decisions in the first place.  Remember, it is the journey, not the destination that counts.  It creates the experience and, through it, the wisdom.  And that is something money cannot buy and no one can teach you.

Virtually yours,
